Data Licence

Our data licence forms part two of three key things that you need to know when using abitat intel.

  1. Terms of Service describes our service and sets up expectations for both sides
  2. Data Licence(this document) describes what you can and can’t do with abitat intel data
  3. Privacy Policy describes how we handle your privacy

This licence explains how you may use data available through the platform.

Data Sources

The platform aggregates and processes information from public and third-party datasets, including environmental and biodiversity registers.

We organise, clean, and analyse this information to make it easier to explore and understand.

Data You Provide

When you upload information to the platform — including details about your gain sites and development sites — you keep ownership of that data.

By uploading it, you grant abitat a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to:

You confirm that you have the right to share the data with us and to grant this licence.

We store uploaded data securely and only use it in line with our Privacy Policy.

Licence to Use the Data

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive licence to access and use the data available through the platform for your internal business or research purposes.

This licence allows you to:

Things You Cannot Do

You may not:

You also may not extract or combine data from the platform in a way that reproduces, or could reasonably be used to reproduce, a substantial portion of the dataset, whether through a single action or a series of smaller extractions.

Derived Insights

You are free to use insights or conclusions you develop from the data.

However, the compiled dataset, platform structure, and analytical outputs provided by the platform remain our intellectual property.

Attribution

Some underlying datasets may be provided under open data licences that require attribution.

Where required, you agree to provide appropriate attribution to the original data source.

Accuracy and Completeness of Data

The platform aggregates data from many public and third-party sources. Source data may be incomplete, delayed, withdrawn, or contain errors, and our processing may not capture every record. Datasets also change over time as sources are updated or corrected.

We therefore provide the data “as is” and do not warrant that it is complete, accurate, current, or fit for any particular purpose. You are responsible for independently verifying any data before relying on it.

Any calculations or outputs derived from the data — including biodiversity net gain calculations and AI-generated outputs — are provided for information only. They are not a substitute for the official statutory biodiversity metric or for professional advice, and must not be used as part of a planning application or any other statutory or regulatory submission. See our Terms of Service for more.

Questions
